In the interests of simplifying the first batch of changes, I'd like to 
propose that this item be withdrawn from the current list.  The topic needs 
more discussion; for example, we may want to integrate this discussion with 
"New C Datatypes" (on the web page of errata items).  In case you'd like to 
see what the errata would look like without this entry,  the "Proposed 
MPI-2 Errata in Postscript" contains the other 19 items.  These are listed 
in page number order, so they don't correspond to the numbering in the 
first batch of corrections.
