[mpi-21] MPI 2.1 and combined documents MPI 1.2, 2.0, 2.1 and further

Dear all,

as chairman of the MPI 2.1 activities, I want to give a short 
overview of the 2.1 workplan at metting Jan. 14-16, 2008.

Rich Graham summarized the Scope of Effort: 
"Clarification to the MPI standards document, resulting in
a single document describing the full MPI 2.1 standard. This includes
merging of documents, text corrections, and added clarifying text." 

For preparation of the meeting:
- You may have a printed version of the official MPI 1.1 and 2.0
  standard because all page and line references are according these books.

- The Ballot 3 can be found at Bill Gropp's current page:
  http://www.cs.uiuc.edu/homes/wgropp/projects/parallel/MPI/mpi-errata/ballot3.html

The steps to this goal are:
- MPI 1.1 + Chap. 3 of MPI-2 (Version 1.2 of MPI) + some errata 
  --> will be combined  "MPI 1.2 combined document"
      This work is already mainly done by Rainer Keller.
- MPI 1.2 combined document + rest of MPI-2 (MPI 2.0) 
  --> will be combined to "MPI 2.0 combined document"
      (50% of this work is already done. 
       A draft will be included in a seperate mail)
- Ballots 3 (and 4) 
- adopted MPI 2.1 Ballots 1&2 + new MPI 2.1 ballots 
  --> are combined to the "MPI 2.1 adopted errata"
      (with references still based on MPI 1.1 and MPI-2 documents)
- MPI 2.0 combined document + MPI 2.1 adopted errata
  --> "MPI 2.1 combined document" 
      (the final goal)

This workplan should be implemented on the spring meetings 2008.

On the Jan. meeting it will be a tough schedule. Therefore it would be
fine if attendees have already looked at the ballot 3.
As fare as I understand are all items obvious.
Therefore we should not spent to much time on Ballot 3.
We need the time for technical decisions on the merging of MPI 1.1 and 2.0.

The MPI 1.2 merging documents have been posted by Rainer Keller
