Title: Re: [mpi-21] Misc items
Very brief update – as this is urgent for some. We ended up having to move the meeting
to Chicago Marriott O'Hare, to accommodate the number of people who have indicated they
will attend. It took a while, as we worked hard to keep the individual cost for the meeting
in the range of $120. I just finished working out the details with the ORNL conference people
this afternoon, and will send on details, once we have the final details back from the hotel.
Thanks,
Rich

I have been getting questions from people who really want to know about
arrangement for the Jan meeting. I was hoping to have all the details
nailed down this week, but we are not quite there - so, I will let people
know what I have so far.
Also, I have been questioned about the web-site. We are almost there, and
if we can't get things up and running next week, I will most likely get a
temporary site working, and once I figure out how to access the official
web-site, move the information. Not ideal, but this is where we are. I
will keep sending information via e-mail, until things are in place.
Meeting location:

A contract has been signed with Courtyard O'Hare, but the block of rooms has
not yet been put aside - there is a document that we are waiting on to be
signed. Once this is done, I will have the details. It looks like the
rooms will be $119 per night, which is $30 less than the government rate.
ORNL's conference folks have estimated that the cost per person for the 2
day meeting will be $125 or a little more - this covers the room with A/V,
lunches Monday - Wed, snacks and drinks. This is up from $75 that was
charged ten years ago, so seems to be inline. Microsoft is helping cover
the first meeting - many thanks - so the charge will be less, and maybe even
$0 - I just don't know all the details yet. Again, if there is someone
willing to pay for subsequent meetings, this would be great. If someone
else steps up to the plate, I would be willing to see if my management can
cover one of the meetings (no promises).
Also, several of us are working on an NSF proposal to help cover the cost
for US academics. It should go in soon.
MPI 2.1
*******
The merge document that Rainer has created is almost ready - it just needs
some checking. I hope it will be out next week for people to start the
reviews to create the official MPI 2.1 document. Here is the list of
reviewers - again more eyes are better:
Chapter 2: MPI-2 Terms and Conventions - Tony Skjellum, Bill Gropp
Chapter 3: Version 1.2 of MPI - Terry Dontje, William Yu, Bill Gropp
Chapter 4: Miscellany - Rich Graham, Jespar Larsson Traeff, George Bosilca,
Steve Poole, Kannan Narasimhan, David Solt, Bill Gropp
Chapter 5: Process Creation and Management - Dries Kimpe, Rusty Lusk,
Georg Bosilca, Bill Gropp
Chapter 6: One-sided Communications - Steven Ericsson-Zenith,
Jespar Larsson Traeff, Martin Schulz, Bill Gropp
Chapter 7: Extended Collective Operations - Steven Ericsson-Zenith,
Edgar Gabriel, Kannan Narasimhan, David Solt, Bill Gropp
Chapter 8: External Interfaces - Bronis de Supinski, Bill Gropp
Chapter 9: I/O - Rajeev Thakur, Joachim Worringen, Bill Gropp
Chapter 10: Language Bindings - Jeff Squyres, Steve Poole,
Purushotham Bangalore, Bill Gropp
The proposed schedule for comments by the reviewers is:
First set of comments to the list by 12/21/2007
Proposal for the next ballot by 1/11/2008
Then we can evaluate where we are. I expect we will need 2-3 people who
can help create the official document that will be voted on, but we still
need to work these details out.

(for now lets not quibble on names, this can come later when we discuss
things face-to-face)
We need to start creating a list of items for discussion in the Jan meeting.
Thanks,
