Due to the heavy schedule of the MPI-II forum real-time group met
only once.
Only one topic was discussed.
For the first time high-level event-driven section was discussed.
The following topics were discussed and suggestions were made:
1. Instead of having two separate local registration operations
have one collective operation over a communicator.
This is somewhat analogous to the channel create operation,
and allows for all processes to register or none of them atomically.
There was some discussion over what communicator it makes
sense to do that. There was some discussion about a communicator
to use and MPI_COMM_WORLD was the obvious candidate.
2. Instead of having two guarded operations one for communication
(channel) and one for computation (function) have only one for
guarded "request". This will allow more flexibility for decisions on what
to guard and direct connection to underlying MPI and MPI/RT structures.
3. The issue of the relationship between queues and events was raised.
Also the relationship between high-level events and OS events
needs clarification.
The scope of high-level events will be clarified.
4. Change the name from high-level event-driven to application event-driven.
5. What functionality is allowed in guarded functions?
Creating new events, channels?
6. Are guarded functions reentrant? How many of the same ones can run
at the same time?
Arkady will work on that section.
The "Hungry Puppies" example was present and general discussion how
applications control their execution flow control were discussed.
The next MPI/RT meeting will immediately follow MPI forum last meeting
in April. The tentative dates are Friday afternoon April 25th
and Saturday, April 26th.
