I really like this new direction. I've been thinking hard over the past day or
two about the idea of depending on barriers for synchronization and I find it
very appealing; I think that it simplifies things a *lot* while still providing
a useful model. In fact I'm halfway thru writing a radicial alternative of my
own which is very similar to what you suggest, so I think there's a very good
chance that we could converge to a common position.
